What is Bellydance?

Bellydance, also known as Middle Eastern and Orientale Dancing is an ancient folk dance originating from Northern Africa and the Middle East.

It is a spiritual and sensual dance that is low impact and safe for all ages and fitness levels. The steps and movements are set to beautiful music from Egypt to Turkey and improve posture, flexibility, co-ordination as well as reducing stress levels.

Bellique Bellydance caters for total beginners to Intermediate and Advanced students. Although known as a dance for women, men are also welcome at Bellique Bellydance

"I have done bellydancing on and off for about 15 years but at Bellique, I find it so much more relaxed and fun than the other studios where I have previously attended classes, whilst still being very professional. I am one of the older students (46) but am always made to feel so included and encouraged. I love the combination of bellydancing and pilates and really find it has helped strengthen my core muscles and diminish my lower back aches. Prue is such a wonderful teacher and her combined skills of bellydancing, pilates and ballet give her such a great knowledge base."

"Being one of Prue's intermediate students, I have thoroughly enjoyed her classes because she offers a great deal of variety and really allows her students to grow into better dancers. Prue keeps herself at the forefront of all things belly dance, always attending workshops with International belly dancers, reading (and writing) articles and attending all of the belly dance festivals so that she can bring the latest learning and ideas to our classes. We have worked with canes, veils, and zills, and Prue always has a quirky new move to teach us or some hints on how to dance freestyle as well. Working with Prue has taken my dancing to another level, and I have been given the opportunity to perform at the Underbelly Concert and with the Bellique Bellydance troupe also. Whilst I believe any serious dancer should have many different teachers, Prue should definitely be one of them! You will learn a lot and have heaps of fun in the process."

"The Bellique Bellydance Troupe has provided me with a fantastic creative outlet, from learning a new routine to wearing beautiful costumes."
